A dust explosion is a dangerous kind of industrial accident that can occur in certain production processes where ambient air is filled with industrial dust. Many kinds of dust can cause explosions, but experts say that explosions of metallic dust are more powerful than those caused by flour, sawdust, or even coal, and just about as explosive as dynamite, because metal conducts energy especially quickly. There are three conditions for a dust explosion: a concentration of dust, available oxygen, and a spark or flame. Thus the key to preventing such deadly accidents lies in proper ventilation, dust removal equipment, and use of spark-free electrical products.

粉尘爆炸是工业生产过程中极易发生的一类事故。专家指出，金属粉尘爆炸的威力比面粉、煤粉、锯末更大，在密闭空间中发生，就像炸药一样，因为金属粉尘是导电的，能量传递的更快，爆炸的威力就更大，威力不亚于一颗炸弹。粉尘爆炸，要具备三个条件，一个是粉尘的浓度、一个是明火、一个是氧气。而防范粉尘爆炸的关键就是控制粉尘浓度，一般来说是要保证工作场所的通风，并安装吸风除尘设备，控制明火，使用防爆电气产品。

On August 2, a dust explosion at an auto parts factory in Kunshan claimed at least 75 lives. The explosion occurred in a room where workers were polishing car wheels, and is likely to have been caused by metallic dust. Authorities have detained two executives at the factory’s owner, Kunshan Zhongrong Metal Production Co., Ltd., and the central government has sent an inspection team under State Councilor Wang Yong.
